Festival Overview
The International Screen Dance Festival UK and SL 2027 invites filmmakers, choreographers, and movement artists to celebrate the vibrant intersection of dance and the moving image. This pioneering festival showcases innovative short dance films that push boundaries, embracing experimental techniques, diverse technologies (both new and old), and bold choreographic visions. With screenings held in both London and Sri Lanka, the festival offers a unique international platform for independent creators to present their work to global audiences. Selected films will be archived at the DS Dance Research digital Library, where they will be accessible online to students, researchers, and the public. As a non‑profit, volunteer‑run initiative led by passionate arts professionals, the festival is committed to nurturing creativity, dialogue, and innovation in screen dance.
Call for Entries: Now Open
We are delighted to announce that submissions are now open for the International Screen Dance Festival UK & SL 2027, a groundbreaking celebration of independent short dance films. We welcome proposals from filmmakers, choreographers, and artists working across diverse creative approaches, including experimental movement, interdisciplinary performance, digital manipulation, analogue techniques, and hybrid forms. Whether you are exploring cutting‑edge digital tools or traditional cinematic methods, we encourage bold creativity and original artistic vision.

- Dates and venues will be announced soon. Selected films will be preserved in the DS Dance Research digital Library for global access and long‑term research value.
Submission Process

Proposal Submission Submit a short proposal outlining your concept, theme, and artistic intention.
- 02
Development Workshop Selected proposals will be invited to participate in an online workshop for guidance, refinement, and creative development.
- 03
Final Film Submission and Festival Registration
The jury will review completed films and nominate them for festival screening.
Key Rules & Terms
- Only one film per artist/company may be submitted.
- Films must be completed after 1 January 2023.
- Maximum film duration: 10 minutes.
- Filmed stage performances created for theatre will not be accepted.
- Student filmmakers must have been enrolled in an accredited institution during production.
- All content must be original, with rights and permissions secured.
- Selected stills may be used for promotional purposes (with credit).
- Feedback cannot be provided for unselected proposals.
